Castlereagh Mayor gives official backing to East Africa's Fields of Life

Castlereagh Mayor, Councillor David Drysdale has chosen to lend his support to Fields of Life, a charity helping those in need in east Africa, during his year in office as Mayor of Castlereagh.

At a special launch event to raise awareness of the charity, held in the council's Civic Centre, guests were treated to a special performance from the Fields of Life children's choir from Uganda.

Fields of Life, which celebrates its 20th anniversary this year, is committed to sharing the Christian faith by collaborating with local communities and churches in east Africa to bring about positive change through the provision of quality education, clean water, health promotion and other community based projects.

Speaking about his charity, the Mayor said: "I am delighted to support Fields of Life during my term in office.

"The charity provides vital life giving support to areas in East Africa who are without many basic provisions that we take for granted in the western world.

"I have an ambitious plan to raise enough funds to drill wells in a number of rural villages to bring safe clean drinking water to communities.

"I hope the people of Castlereagh will support my fund raising events which promise to be good fun while helping such a worthwhile cause."
