Catholic publisher Veritas celebrates Pope Francis sales
Pope Francis's popularity has given a much-needed boost to the fortunes of Irish Catholic publishers Veritas, which has sold out five successive print runs of his radical document, The Joy of the Gospel.
The theological work, which outlines the Argentinian Pontiff's vision on reform and challenging clericalism and complacency in the Church, is now on its sixth edition, having already sold 15,000 copies.
Director of Veritas, Maura Hyland, said the "Francis factor" was having a positive effect on the sales and that Evangelii Gaudium – as The Joy of the Gospel is known in Latin – is the best-selling publication Veritas has produced in a number of years.
"It is the biggest selling publication in that kind of category that we have ever had," she said.
"People are still interested in buying a copy of the Pope's work even though they can obtain it free online," she added.
Last week, Ms Hyland was in Rome to present Pope Francis with a copy of Veritas's newly published Irish Catholic Catechism for Adults.
