Cave Hill tragedy

By Brian Lovett

The funeral of a man who died after falling from one of north Belfast’s best known landmarks took place on Monday, February 15.

Samuel Hooks, 41, died last Tuesday (February 9) evening after falling from the Cave Hill.

Newtownabbey Alderman Nigel Hamilton expressed his shock at the news and passed his condolences on to Mr Hooks’ family.

“Any death in such circumstances is difficult and is a painful time for the family — my thoughts go to them,” he said.

A spokesman for the PSNI said they were not investigating any suspicious circumstances.

“We had been made aware of a person in distress on Cave Hill at 6pm on Tuesday (February 9). We did attend with other agencies,” he said.
