CCTV bid to tackle dog fouling in Ballymena

Big Brother-style street cameras are to be trained on dog owners who allow their pets to foul pavements in Ballymena.

And £50 fines are also to be dished out in a bid to cut dog mess on the town’s streets.

Town centre CCTV cameras will pick up inconsiderate canine owners who fail to clean up after their pets foul the streets.

Councillor PJ McAvoy, chairman of the ‘Safer Cleaner and Accessible' group in Ballymena, said early morning and late night dog walkers are failing to remove dog mess.

“This is showing no consideration for the public who use the town centre including wheelchair users, motability transport, children's buggies and sight-impaired people who have to contend with this problem,” he said.

“I have no hesitation in asking the town centre CCTV to monitor this problem.”
