Charges after police injured in car crash

By Garrett Hargan

A 25-year-old Londonderry man has been charged with numerous motoring offences following a collision involving police vehicles and a suspected stolen car near Maghera.

Ryan Leigh McLaughlin, from Broomy Lane in Derry, faces 10 charges including aggravated vehicle taking, burglary, dangerous driving and driving while unfit through alcohol or drugs, and other motoring offences.

He appeared at Derry Magistrates Court yesterday.

At around 11.50pm on Thursday, it was reported that a Nissan Juke car parked close to a house in the area was stolen.

The car made off towards Glenshane Road.

Shortly after 12.30am, police located and followed the vehicle, which then drove towards Maghera.

It is believed that as the car made its way into the area it collided with two police cars with four officers suffering minor injuries. A man was then arrested.
