Chef Darina Allen to star at St George's market cook-in
One of Ireland's top chefs and food experts will be putting fresh local ingredients at the head of the menu at Belfast's St George's Market on Saturday.
Darina Allen, from the acclaimed Ballymaloe Cookery School in Cork, will be joined by a host of local chefs to highlight the benefits of cooking from fresh, using ingredients sourced directly from the farmers and producers who trade at the historic market.
Compered by broadcaster and food writer Barbara Collins, the one-off event also will feature a line-up of talented chefs from across Belfast and Northern Ireland.
They include Carl Johanssen from James Street South Bistro, Joery Castel from The Boathouse in Bangor, Ben Arnold from Home and Paula McIntyre, resident chef on BBC Radio Ulster's Saturday Magazine show.
Using ingredients sourced from the market's own producers that morning, the five chefs will demonstrate their individual flair and talent against the clock to produce dishes.
The recipes will showcase the wide range of fresh produce available at St George's every week – from seafood to rarebreed meats, harvested vegetables to homemade breads, and oils to handpicked seaweed.
Darina – star of various TV cook shows – and the rest of the chefs will be at St George's Market between 11am and 2pm. Entry is free.
