Child abuse accused faces trial
A 61-year-old man accused of sexually abusing a young boy has appeared before a preliminary inquiry at Fermanagh Magistrates Court.
John Michael McDermott, from Moorlough Road, Donagh, Lisnaskea, faces four charges of indecently assaulting the boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, between January 1, 2002, and December 31, 2004.
The prosecutor submitted that on the documentary evidence before the court McDermott had a case to answer.
Defence solicitor Declan Marlow said that was not formally conceded, but he was making no contrary submission.
District Judge Liam McNally said he had read the documents and on that basis found that McDermott had a case to answer.
Asked if he wished to say anything in answer to the charges, McDermott replied: “Not at this time.”
Asked if he wished to give evidence or call witnesses he again replied: “Not at this time.”
He was returned for trial to take place at Omagh Crown Court on May 5.
