Child and woman rescued from fire

A three-year-old child has been rescued from a house fire in Co Down.

The child and a woman aged 28 in a first-floor bedroom were saved from the blaze at a property at Summerhill, Warrenpoint, on Saturday afternoon.

They were given first aid and taken to hospital by ambulance.

A fire service spokesman said: "On arrival fire crews were confronted by a well-developed fire in the kitchen, heavy smoke logging throughout all parts of the house and reports that people were still inside.

"Six firefighters wearing breathing apparatus extinguished the fire and rescued the female and child from a first-floor bedroom."
