The funeral has taken place of a "beautiful" Co Armagh teenager who died after choking on food at his Lurgan home.

Fintan McCabe, who was 17, was rushed to Craigavon Area Hospital last week but couldn't be saved.

Tributes were paid to the popular teenager from family, friends and girlfriend Megan.

A death notice said: 'To a beautiful young man, inside and out. Taken too young. Will be sadly missed by the McGoldrick family, especially Megan.'

Fintan, a former pupil of Lismore Comprehensive, was described by principal Fiona Kane as a "much loved and well-respected past pupil".

"During his five years at Lismore he developed firm friendships with his fellow pupils and was held in high regard by his teachers," Ms Kane said.

"He showed determination and commitment to reach his potential and left Lismore in June 2016 to pursue further studies at Southern Regional College.

"The entire school community have been saddened by the news of Fintan's sudden and tragic death.

"On behalf of the pupils, staff, governors and the wider Lismore community, I extend sincere sympathy to Fintan's family and friends."

The teenager's funeral took place yesterday at St Paul's Church, with interment afterwards in St Coleman's Cemetery.

Lurgan SDLP councillor Joe Nelson passed on his condolences to the family, calling the teenager's death "needless" and a freak accident.

Fintan had been a popular member of the New Era Martial Arts Club in his home town.

On Friday the club posted a tribute on Facebook.

It said: "We found out that a student, teammate, sadly passed away.

"Rest in peace Fin, you were a good lad and a pleasure to teach. You will be sadly missed by all of us at New Era. Friends, brothers, teammates. We train together, sweat together, sometimes even bleed together.

"You just don't know what is around the corner.

"Our condolences to the family at this hard time."

Fintan is survived by his parents Peter and Linda and siblings Dominic, Rebecca and Peadar.
