Church is targeted by thieves

By Lauren Mulvenny

The congregation of a local church has raised concerns after the church building was targeted by thieves twice in three weeks.

During these incidents two expensive flood lights were stolen from Cregagh Presbyterian Church, located on the Cregagh Road.

The first incident occurred during the week commencing January 11, with the second taking place two weeks later on January 27. A police spokesperson said that while attending to a report received on January 27 “we were also made aware that a previous theft had taken place”.

“Officers from the local neighbourhood policing unit have met with a representative from the church and the issue has been referred to police service crime prevention for further support,” said the spokesperson.

A spokesperson for Cregagh Presbyterian Church added: “The Church can ill afford the high cost of replacing these items and would greatly appreciate if anyone sees suspicious activity to report this to Strandtown Police Station.”

Anyone with information should contact police on 0845 600 8000.
