Church roof stripped by lead thieves
An MLA has branded thieves who stole lead from a church roof over Easter as “nothing better than animals”.
The DUP’s Alex Easton has called on other churches to step up security following the theft of the lucrative metal from the roof of the Church of the Nazarene at Rathgill in Bangor.
“This appalling incident of stripping lead from the roof of the Church of the Nazarene over the Easter period is a despicable act and can only be totally condemned,” said Mr Easton.
“Those responsible have nothing to offer the community and obviously had no compassion to be able to damage a Church especially over this important period in the Christian calender.
“This is not just the theft of lead from a church roof causing thousands of pounds of damage but it is also an attack on Christian worship.”
