City Hall is a shining example for Women's Day
The City Hall in Belfast was lit up in purple last night to mark International Women's Day.
Lord Mayor Nuala McAllister spoke there yesterday about the importance of women helping one another to press for progress, as well as the council's role in empowering female staff.
The landmark building will also be the focus of the annual International Women's Day march and rally tomorrow.
Those wishing to take part are urged to gather at Writer's Square on Donegall Street at 11am. The parade is scheduled to leave at around 11.30am and the crowd will be addressed at the gates of Belfast City Hall by a number of women's rights activists.
Organisers said this year's rally promises to be a colourful, celebratory event with Writer's Square hosting family-friendly events before the parade.
