City's new Lord Mayor Nuala McAllister has arms full
Alliance councillor Nuala McAllister last night became Belfast's first citizen - the fourth woman to hold the post and the first young mother.
The 28-year-old north Belfast councillor and mum to nine-month-old son Finn succeeded the DUP's Brian Kingston as Lord Mayor.
As she took office, Ms McAllister said that 'Global Belfast' will be the theme of her year in office.
"I want to develop Belfast's status as a global city, building upon our rich history as world leaders in shipbuilding, the linen industry, literature and music," the new Lord Mayor said. "My aim is to promote Belfast as an open, inclusive and welcoming place to live and do business in, a city that is attractive to visitors and investors alike."
UUP councillor Sonia Copeland was appointed Deputy Lord Mayor, succeeding Sinn Fein's Mary Ellen Campbell.
