Co Antrim council staff given time off in exchange for parking further away

Staff on Antrim and Newtownabbey Council have been able to claim time off in exchange for parking further away from their workplace.

The Antrim Guardian reports the arrangement has been put in place to leave parking spaces available for those attending conferences on Council property.

Speaking to the newspaper, a source claimed staff were able to avail from 45 minutes off in lieu as a result of parking on streets within walking distance of the building.

In a statement to the BBC, the council said the parking spaces were sometimes required for the large number of people using the facilities at Mossley Mill and that it generated over £145,000 worth of income for the year 2017/18.

It said staff were given advance notice of when the conference centre was expected to be used and were asked to walk to their offices once or twice a week.

"Staff who volunteer to park off site, are allowed time to walk to and from their normal place of work at Mossley Mill," the council said.
