Co Tyrone security alert declared a hoax

A householder had been held down by a number of men who left an object that appeared to be a pipebomb inside the property in Castlederg.

A security alert in Co Tyrone has been declared as a hoax.

It came about after a householder in Castlederg was held to the ground by a number of men before a suspicious object resembling a pipe bomb was left.

The incident started at around 7.30pm on Tuesday at a property in Millbrook Gardens, a PSNI spokesman said.

Police and army technical officers attended the scene and examined the object which was declared a hoax. A number of neighbours were evacuated from their homes as a precaution during the operation.
