Coming to Belfast - an event to help you delve into your family's past
A popular history and genealogy event is set to come to Belfast for the first time next year.
Back To Our Past has been running in Dublin for almost a decade, offering an insight into the latest techniques to find out more about your family's past, including the study of DNA.
The event, set to be held at Titanic Belfast in February, will also dip into the typical genealogy of an Ulster family, the Scots and Irish diaspora across the world and even take a look at DNA and Game of Thrones.
Back To Our Past organisers say they are bringing the event to Belfast for the first time following numerous requests from both visitors and exhibitors.
They add that following the demise of the Who Do You Think You Are Live event at The National Exhibition Centre, Birmingham, BTOP is now technically the only notable national event of its type in the UK.
Organisers went on to describe their event as "undoubtedly a must" for everyone interested in tracing his or her roots.
Apart from the range of exhibitors on all aspects of family and social history, there is a programme of presentations offering visitors expert guidance on tracing their family histories.
The presentations are free to those attending Back To Our Past and there is no booking facility. All presentations can be attended on a first-come-first-served basis.
The event will also feature exhibitors representing Irish and overseas genealogical societies, data providers, record repositories, heritage magazines and heritage sites will be on hand to give advice and engage with individual inquiries.
It will also include an event run by the International Society of Genetic Genealogists (ISOGG) and sponsored by FamilyTreeDNA which consists of a stream of lectures on genetic genealogy running throughout the two days.
However, in addition to genealogy, the event will also offer free antique valuations by Tom Keane, known to millions for his appearances on BBC TV's Cash in the Attic and Bargain Hunt.
Tom will be offering free valuations for small items and collectibles, as well as offering advice from photographs of bigger antiques at the event.
There will also be free coin, medal, stamp and banknote valuations with expert Mike Kelly.
Back To Our Past takes place at Titanic Belfast on Friday, February 16 and Saturday, February 17 from 10am until 5pm on both days. Admission is £10.
