Community house gets special makeover courtesy of IKEA

A community house used by the PSNI to engage with youth in Newtownards, Co Down, has been given a special makeover.

The house in the West Winds estate was opened with the hope it would further aid community relations.

The house is used by the PSNI and three Extern projects, Strength 2 Strength, the Linx project and its Youth Support project for work with young people aged between eight and 18.

It was redecorated and furnished by volunteers from all the agencies involved, with paint, furniture and soft furnishings donated from IKEA.

North Down and Ards area commander, Chief Inspector Gerry McGrath, said: "The house has been turned into somewhere the young people can feel comfortable and relaxed in and this will help ensure the time officers spend here with them is of maximum benefit to everyone".
