Applications being brought before the Executive for the commercial extraction of gas should be rejected due to the risks such practices pose to public health and the environment, campaigners have argued.

Fracking is broadly banned across the UK and Ireland. In England, the government told the industry it would not agree to any future fracking “until compelling new evidence is provided” that it was safe, after a series of earth tremors in the Lancashire area raised concerns.
