Conference aimed at helping aged feel safe

By Colin O’Carroll

Belfast City Council will host its fourth annual Senior Citizens’ Convention on Tuesday at Belfast City Hall.

The theme of this year’s event will be Feeling Safer In The Home And Community.

More than 250 senior citizen community representatives are expected to attend.

The convention is an opportunity for senior citizens to learn how to prepare for the coming winter (which is expected to be just as harsh as last year), feel safe within the community and raise concerns with politicians.

Belfast Lord Mayor Niall O Donnghaile said: “We will be replacing electric blankets, highlighting our ‘Be Warm’ savings scheme, which allows people to save for oil bills by buying £5 stamps, and encouraging people to look out for each other.”

The PSNI will outline its efforts on making people feel safe in the community.
