Couple rescued after getting trapped in lift in Belfast clothes shop

A man and a woman have been rescued after they got stuck in a lift in a Belfast city centre clothes shop on Thursday afternoon.

The incident happened at around 2pm in the Donegall Place New Look store.

Two fire engines and two response vehicles attended the scene.

By 2.30pm both were released from the lift. They did not receive any injuries.

A Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service spokesman said: "We received a call at 2pm to a report of an incident at commercial premises at the Donegall Place area of Belfast this afternoon.

“Two fire appliances from Central Fire Station were deployed to the scene of a male and female trapped in a lift.

"Firefighters released the two persons from the lift. They did not receive any injuries.

"The incident finished at 2.26pm.”
