Couple threatened by burglars in east Belfast

An east Belfast couple are recovering after they were threatened by a gang of men as they ransacked their home.

Police have appealed for help in tracking down the robbers who carried out an aggravated burglary at a home in the Rocky Road area of Castlereagh on Wednesday.

Four masked men, one of them armed with a crowbar, entered the house at about 7.45pm and threatened the man and woman. They ransacked the property before fleeing the scene. The PSNI said it was not immediately clear if anything was stolen from the property.

A spokesman said the victims were not injured during the incident.

East Belfast MP Naomi Long condemned the robbery.

“People should be able to live in their own homes without having to worry about being threatened with violence,” said the Alliance woman.

“These robbers are obviously very callous with no respect for others or people’s property.”
