Court told of attack by former girlfriend

By Ashleigh McDonald

A man who sustained a wound to his hand after his ex-girlfriend attacked his home told a jury he believed she would carry out a threat to kill him.

The victim said he had drunk around 10 tins of beer and had fallen asleep on his sofa, but was woken by the sound of glass smashing in the kitchen of his ground-floor flat.

When he went to investigate, he saw ex-girlfriend Jeanette Maughan standing outside his kitchen, breaking the window with a hammer.

He claimed that Maughan then threw a knife at him, along with other weapons and shards of glass from the smashed window.

The Belfast man was giving evidence at the trial of Jeanette Maughan (47), from Aspen Park in Dunmurry, who is facing three charges arising from the incident at Woodburne Court last September.

Maughan has been charged with aggravated burglary with intent to commit grievous bodily harm, wounding with intent and making a threat to kill.

She denies all the charges and is currently standing trial at Belfast Crown Court.
