US President Donald Trump sent Twitter into meltdown over a nonsense tweet - with one local BBC broadcaster questioning the pronunciation in case she needed to read it out on air.

In the early hours of Wednesday, the 45th president of the United States sent one single message out into the Twittersphere which sparked a global trend.

"Despite all the constant negative press covfefe," was the momentous words which have dominated the day's web goings-on.

Twitter went into a spin with many asking what he could possible mean over the since deleted tweet.

And one local newsreader was left wanting to know the agreed pronunciation of the made-up word.

"cov-fefe or "kov-fefe? I might need to know, just in case," tweeted Ann-Marie Foster.
