Crime figures getting better

North Down MLA Peter Weir DUP has welcomed the latest crime figures revealed at a meeting of the North Down DPP in Holywood.

“There has been a reduction in criminal damage crimes, a small reduction in anti social behavior, and an increase in the seizures of alcohol and drugs,” he notes.

“Additionally there has been a small decrease in the overall numbers of crimes committed locally, as well as rising trends in clearance rates. The one worrying statistic is the rise in the number of domestic burglary.

“Overall there has been positive progress. The PSNI in North Down should be congratulated on their efforts, and it should be remembered that this has only be achieved with the help and co-operation of local people, who must take their share of the credit.

“However, while progress has been achieved, the rise in domestic burglary shows that we cannot be complacent, and I urge the public to continue to be vigilant and assist the police. Only by everyone working together can we continue to drive down crime in North Down."
