Crossbow used during Tyrone kidnap ordeal

A man has been beaten and threatened with a crossbow during a kidnap ordeal, police have said.

The 36-year-old victim was forced into a white van on the Gortgonis Road, Coalisland, Co Tyrone, by two men on Friday evening and driven around for approximately 20 minutes.

During the ordeal he was assaulted and threatened with a crossbow, before managing to escape in the area of Derrytresk Road.

The victim's phone was taken by the assailants, who also demanded money.

A police spokesman said detectives in Dungannon would like witnesses or anyone with information to contact them.

They are particularly keen to hear from anyone who noticed a white van in the Gortgonis Road area at around 5.30pm on Friday.

Anyone with information should call police on 0845 600 8000 or talk anonymously to the Crimestoppers charity on 0800 555 111.
