Already hailed by BBC’s Countryfile as the best country pub in the UK, Vincent Hurl of The Crosskeys Inn near Toome is delighted to have won over another fan in Tom Parker Bowles.

Alongside wife Melanie from Michigan in the US, Bellaghy man Vincent (47) has been the brains behind the operation for almost 18 years, and his recently acquired Masters Degree in Tourism certainly helps him pull in the tourists as well as pints of Guinness.

“We’re known as a tourist pub,” he told the Belfast Telegraph. “We try to give people the full Irish hospitality package.

“Traditional music in the oldest thatched pub in Ireland with peat fires, a Lough Neagh eel supper or Irish stew in the countryside seems to go down a treat with our visitors.

“In the end, though, it’s about the people. We have a wonderful local clientele and visitors are made to feel right at home.”
