Crossmaglen hit and run: Man arrested on suspicion of motoring offences

Police investigating a hit and run in Crossmaglen early on Wednesday morning have arrested a 20-year-old man.

The man was arrested on suspicion of a number of motoring offences. He has been interviewed and released on bail pending further enquiries.

GAA handball star Conall McCavitt, who is in his 20s, was struck by a car on Cardinal O'Fiaich Square in the centre of the Co Armagh town shortly before 6.20am.

He was taken to hospital after being struck by a car shortly before 6.20am in the Cardinal O’Fiaich Square area of the village.

Mr McCavitt remains in a serious condition in hospital.

Police continue to appeal for anyone who was in the centre of Crossmaglen and who witnessed the collision, or anyone with any information about the movements of the offending car or its occupants following the collision to contact officers in Newry on 101 quoting reference number 488 of 27/12/16.
