A man has appeared in court charged with the murder of 21-year-old Niall Magee in Co Antrim.

Michael McManus (25) of Cairn Walk in Crumlin, is accused of the murder of Mr Magee who died on Sunday April 28.

Standing in the dock of Limavady Magistrates Court, both of Mr McManus' eyes were blackened and he had a number of cuts and bruises to his face which was swollen.

A Detective Chief Inspector told the court he believed he could connect Mr McManus with the charge and opposed a bail application on the ground that he believed the accused would abscond.

Bail was also objected to on the grounds that Mr McManus may interfere with one of the witnesses - a 19-year-old female described as vulnerable.

District Judge Peter King refused the application for bail and the defendant was remanded into custody until May 28 when he will appear at Antrim Court via videolink.
