Crusaders celebrate mini soccer birthday

By Michael Bashford

The Crusaders Mini Soccer Centre celebrated its first birthday at Seaview recently.

Over 80 children aged between five and 11 attended the celebration event where they were treated to a range of training exercises from both IFA qualified Crusaders coaches and fitness coaches from The Royal Air Force. McDonald’s Abbbeycentre, the Mini Soccer Centre’s sponsors, were also there to hand out a range of goodies to all the kids.

Stephen Baxter, Crusaders manager, and Martin Donnelly, Crusaders first-team regular, also attended to support the event and work with some of the children.

Neil McMaster, chairman of the Crusaders Youth Academy, said: “The set up, facilities and the coaching staff are fantastic. The fact that we are seeing numbers increase on a weekly basis shows that the children really enjoy coming along.

“The mini soccer centre allows children to develop their skills at an early age and prepare them for youth football in the Crusaders Academy. Hopefully, for some of the children, this is their first step towards a professional football career.”
