Cyclist (25) dies after ambulance collision in Enniskillen


Police are investigating the death of a 25-year-old cyclist who died when he was in collision with an ambulance while it transported a patient to hospital.

Safir Idrisov died at the scene after the road crash in Enniskillen in the early hours of yesterday.

The victim, who is believed to be originally from Lithuania and who worked at a hotel in the town, was cycling along the A4 Dublin Road when he was struck at around 1.15am.

The ambulance was taking a patient to the South West Acute Hospital at the time.

An Ambulance Service spokesman said more resources were sent to deal with the patient and treat the cyclist.

"The thoughts of all within Northern Ireland Ambulance Service are with the family of the deceased and we would like to offer our sincerest condolences," said the spokesman.

He added: "Regrettably as a result of injuries sustained, the cyclist died at the scene.

"We will also seek to support the crew involved in this harrowing incident."

The road was closed between the Killyhevlin Hotel and Wickham Place yesterday.
