Dad's touching tribute as Caoilte Fitzsimons laid to rest

By Mark Bain

Mourners attending the funeral of little Caoilte Fitzsimons gave her a touching farewell yesterday as they turned out for the service in her favourite colours of pink and purple.

The Ardoyne five-year-old, who was born with Type 1 Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA), passed away in the early hours of last Sunday.

The funeral service was held at St Therese Church, Somerton Road and Caoilte was taken to her final resting place in Carnmoney Cemetery in a horse-drawn carriage.

He father Rab thanked all those who had supported his daughter during her life.

"We can't thank everybody enough for your love and support through this difficult time and we are proud that our daughter, granddaughter, niece, cousin, has touched the lives of so many, he said.
