Dame Kelly Holmes makes surprise appearance at Belfast parkrun
Double Olympic gold medal winner Dame Kelly Holmes made a surprise appearance at a parkrun in Belfast on Saturday morning.
Runners were delighted to see Dame Kelly when she joined them for the Ormeau Parkrun.
Former Belfast Telegraph journalist Claire Harrison was taking part in the run and said it was a "treat" to have the highly decorated athlete join them.
She said that Dame Kelly gave a motivational chat to runners at the start of their run, offered some applause at the halfway mark and scanned their barcodes at the end.
The Ormeau Parkrun takes place in Ormeau Park every Saturday morning at 9.30am, participants take on the clock in a 5k run.
Retired middle distance athlete Dame Kelly is one of the most decorated British runners of all-time.
She famously captured double golds in the 800m and 1500m at the 2004 Olympics in Athens.
Dame Kelly retired following the Olympics and has since dedicated her time to media work and her charity, the Dame Kelly Holmes Trust.
