UTV viewers will be enjoying the four part documentary on the new musical based on George Best’s life story which began on Tuesday (20th).
The show, Dancing Shoes — The George Best Story, premieres at the Grand Opera House next Friday, July 30, after previews on Wednesday and Thursday.
Written by Marie Jones, Martin Lynch, JJ Gilmour and Pat Gribben, the show will run until August 14. Dancing Shoes tells of the turbulent and colourful life of the football icon from his childhood days on the Cregagh Estate to a life of fame, fortune and controversy and is packed with great characters, beautiful songs and trademark Belfast humour.
Playwright Marie Jones said: “This is quite simply, the biggest and most exciting project I've ever been involved in.
“It's about a hero from my own town, it's about music and it's also a great human story. What more could you ask for?”
Playwright Martin Lynch adds: “We have a superb cast, I have never been as happy with a cast, we have a fabulous director, Peter Sheridan, who is so inventive in rehearsals. We also have an exceptionally strong team, especially in songwriters, JJ Gilmour and Pat Gribben.
“I've been writing plays for thirty years now and it's not often you leave rehearsals thinking, 'there's something special going on in there.”
An exhibition by artist Laura Graham is accompanying the production. Alternative Memories is running at the Opera House from July 28 until|August, 14.
