Daniel Jack raising money for Northern Ireland hospice
'The kindness of people is unbelievable'
Daniel Jack from west Belfast is preparing for the Between the Bridges 5k race along the Westlink on June 22 to raise money for the Northern Ireland Hospice.
The Age NI development manager, his wife Eileen Jack and their friends Stuart Kennedy and Peter White are just back from America, where they were taking part in the Boston Marathon, a year after a fatal bombing at the finish line devastated the city.
Daniel said: "It was a tough day but a great day. It was emotional running along the route. People were thanking runners for taking part.
"It was something special to be part of.
"It was all very positive, a true celebration. The whole city got behind the marathon."
Daniel and the Boston team have raised nearly £8,000 for the hospice so far but they want the public to help them get to the target of £12,000.
The funds raised will go to the Buy-a-Brick scheme for the rebuild of the hospice buildings at Somerton House off the Antrim Road in north Belfast.
Daniel is thrilled with the backing they have received from the public.
"Thanks to everyone. We have been totally overwhelmed by the help, support and generosity of those who have demonstrated a great affinity with the hospice.
"Our campaign has captured people's imagination. They want to be part of the hospice legacy."
