Dead lambs dumped near Antrim dam
A fisherman has hit out at what he calls "disgusting behaviour" after a number of lamb and calf carcasses were discovered on land near Altnahinch Dam near Loughgiel.
The man claimed people have been travelling from different areas of the borough to dump their dead animals on the edge of the forest and said farmers who dump dead animals should have government subsidies withdrawn.
The fisherman called for more policing of the area at night and told the Ballymoney Chronicle: "I wanted to speak out as it's a total disgrace. It's absolutely disgusting that people think it's okay to drive to this area to dump their dead animals. It's people driving in from outside areas and dumping, not locals.”
The Altnahinch Dam is situated at the edge of Slieveanorra forest, near Loughgiel where many tourists visit the area in the summer months, so it is plausible that picnickers could have been lunching just metres from festering animal carcasses.
