An elderly motorist has died following a one-vehicle road traffic collision in Co Antrim.
An elderly motorist has died following a one-vehicle road traffic collision in Co Antrim.

The death of a motorist who died after the car he was driving crashed into a wall in Co Antrim is being treated as a fatal road accident.

The accident happened on the Ballynure Road in Ballyearl on Friday morning.

The man- who was in his 80s and came from the Ballyclare area- was at the wheel of a brown Vauxhall Meriva which collided with a wall at around 11am.

Police were initially unsure whether the man died of natural causes or as a result of injuries sustained during the crash.

However, a post mortem has confirmed the driver died as a result of the crash and his death is not being treated as a sudden death.

Police re-appealed for information on Monday as a result of the new information.

Constable Michael McNee said, “I would ask that anyone who was driving on the Ballynure Road on Friday morning and witnessed the collision, has dash-cam footage or who noticed the car being driven in the area to contact officers at Collision Investigation Unit  on 101 with any information quoting reference number 580 26/07/19.”
