An investigation has been launched following the sudden death of a man in Kilkeel Harbour.

Police were called to a scene on a boat in the harbour on Monday evening.

Reports suggested the man who died was from Scotland.

It is believed he was the boat's skipper and that he slipped and fell.

The PSNI said: "Police were called to the sudden death of a man aboard a vessel in Kilkeel Harbour on Monday evening.

"The circumstances of the death will be investigated by the Marine Accident Investigation Branch."

A spokesperson for the Ambulance Service said it had despatched one emergency crew and a rapid response paramedic to the scene.

The Air Ambulance was also scrambled, but no one was taken to hospital.

The Marine Accident Investigation Branch said the man was a crew member on board a fishing vessel called Artemis, which is registered in Fraserburgh, Scotland.
