An arson attack on a car in a residential area of Belfast had the potential to kill, police have warned.
The vehicle was set alight at Malone Avenue in south Belfast during the early hours of this morning. Flames spread from the car to a house.
A PSNI spokesman said: "At around 3.25am, police received a report that a car in the Malone Avenue area had been set alight. The fire spread from the car to a house, causing damage to the ground-floor window.
"It is believed that this fire was started deliberately. This is extremely dangerous behaviour and it has the potential to result in a fatality."
Police are not linking this latest incident to a recent spate of arson attacks in the student area of south Belfast in which 10 cars were torched.
They have appealed for any witnesses to the attack to come forward.
