A man appeared in court on Saturday charged with having three knives at Greystone shopping mall in Antrim town on Friday.

Stephen Lee Thompson (31), unemployed, of Shanlieve, Ballymena, is also accused of robbing a female of £200, the theft of a Marie Curie charity box, and assaulting a police officer on the same date.

As the accused appeared in the dock at a sitting of Ballymena Magistrates Court, a police officer said she believed she could connect him to the charges.

A defence solicitor said he had no questions for the officer and was not making any bail application.

No further details were given to the court and the accused was remanded in custody to appear at Antrim Magistrates Court on August 1 via video link.
