Derry City Council crackdown on dumping

Derry City Council enforcement officers have vowed to crack down on illegal dumping in the Gobnascale area of the city.

The recurring dumping is taking place at laneways to the rear of the Dunfield Terrace and Moore Street areas.

Waterside councillor Lynn Fleming had called on officers to intervene over concerns about the potential health hazard. “I visited the area myself and seen a large number of bags of rubbish strewn across the laneways,” said the Sinn Fein councillor.

A spokeswoman for Derry City Council confirmed it was aware of this issue, and added that a council enforcement officer was now looking at the problem.

She added: “All indiscriminate dumping is investigated and action taken as appropriate.”
