The last words of a young Londonderry woman who died in a road accident in the Republic to her boyfriend were "I love you", mourners have heard.
More than 1,000 people attended the funeral of 27-year-old Kathryn Jones at Holy Family Church in Ballymagroarty in Derry.
She died after her car and a truck were involved in a collision on the Letterkenny to Sligo road in Donegal on Friday.
Mourners heard that her death was the third tragedy to hit her family. Speaking at the funeral Mass for the young woman, Fr Paddy O'Kane said that Kathryn's parents had also buried two young boys who had died after childbirth and now had lost their youngest child.
Fr O'Kane said that "someone precious, special and irreplaceable has been suddenly taken from our midst".
He added: "We are bereft and nothing anyone can say can take away your pain."
The priest went on: "A life even though short was well lived and brought such joy to others."
During the poignant ceremony, the first reading was by Kathryn's boyfriend Paddy Friel, who is well known as a DJ on Highland Radio.
Fr O'Kane recounted how the couple met while working at United Health Care in Letterkenny but that Paddy had only asked her out after a chance encounter in Foyleside Shopping Centre in Derry. He told the congregation that Kathryn's last words to her boyfriend on Friday morning were "I love you".
The priest also said that Kathryn loved to supply her fellow workers at United Health Care with sweet things so much so that one person who contracted diabetes joked it was her fault for being so generous.
Following the Mass, Kathryn was interred at Ardmore Cemetery.
