Derry half-marathon runaway success entries-wise
The number of runners taking part in this year's Londonderry half-marathon has reached a record breaking figure of almost 2,000.
Derry City Council, which has organised the event for the past 33 years, has had to close entry to the Waterside Half Marathon because – for the first time ever – capacity has been reached.
Among the 1,900 participants will be Derry mayor Brenda Stevenson, who has signed up for one of the relay teams. She is raising funds for her two designated charities, Circle of Support for Autism Families and Something Special.
Ms Stevenson said she was delighted to see so many local athletes taking part and added: "The figures are fantastic for this year's event and it's great to see the city's passion for running continuing to grow."
