Derry man accused of Scottish nightclub attack that left victim with serious head injuries

A man from Londonderry is accused of a late night attack outside a Scottish nightclub that left the victim with serious head injuries.

A 47-year-old man suffered head injuries in the incident near Mambo's nightclub in Peterhead, Aberdeenshire in the early hours of Sunday.

He remains in a serious condition at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary hospital.

John Patrick Nixon, 29, from Londonderry, was on Tuesday charged with assault to severe injury and danger of life, appearing before Peterhead Sheriff Court.

He made no plea or declaration and was remanded in custody.

The defendant's next court appearance is expected to be August 5.

Police Scotland closed off Queen Street in Peterhead for around 12 hours following the incident.
