
A 49-year-long marriage came to an end when a husband slapped his wife, Londonderry Magistrates' Court has head
Charlie O'Donnell (69) from Rinmore Drive in the Creggan area of the city pleaded guilty to a charge of assaulting his wife in their home on June 12.
He was arrested after his wife reported the assault to the police.
Defence solicitor Kevin Casey said the injured party had not sustained any injuries. He said the defendant, who made full and immediate admissions, "lost his temper and slapped his wife once on the face when they had a heated argument over how a bed should be made.
"The marriage is now over," he added.
District Judge Barney McElholm imposed a 12- month conditional discharge on the defendant.
