Derry teen jailed for 'up the Ra' shout at bandsmen

By Eamonn Macdermott

A man who shouted 'up the Ra' at a band taking part in the annual Apprentice Boys march in Londonderry has been jailed.

Stefan Connolly (19), of Deramore Drive in the city, admitted committing a provocative act and possessing Viagra on August 10 last.

The court was told that Connolly shouted the remarks as the band was passing.

When police approached he became verbally abusive before running off.

He was chased and arrested.

When searched a Viagra tablet was found in his possession and he told police a friend had given it to him.

Defence counsel Stephen Mooney said that Connolly was already serving a lengthy sentence and asked the court not to increase that.

District Judge Barney McElholm sentenced Connolly to four months on the march-related charges.
