Derry teenager dies after fishing boat capsizes off Donegal

Two people have died after being rescued from the sea off the coast of Donegal.

The rescue effort took place on Tuesday after a fishing boat capsized.

The 16-year-old from Londonderry was airlifted to Altnagelvin Hospital in Derry where he died.

A man in his 60s, believed to be from Donegal, was taken from the water by rescuers and pronounced dead at the scene.

His body will now be taken to Letterkenny University Hospital where a post -mortem will take take place.

A man believed to be in his 50s has also been taken to Altnegalvin Hospital.

Gardai in Donegal received a call at around 4.15pm on Tuesday afternoon that three people on a boat had gotten into difficulty off the coast of Donegal.

The local Coast Guard mounted a rescue operation to retrieve the men from the water.

Gardai were notified by the PSNI later on Tuesday evening the 16-year-old had died.
