Derry woman attacked love rival because of 'betrayal'

A Derry woman who kicked her love rival in the stomach and tried to knock over a child's buggy with a baby in it has appeared at the local Magistrate's Court.

Michelle Miller (31) of Summer Meadows Court in Derry admitted assaulting the other woman on February 4 this year.

The court heard that the incident had its roots in the fact that both woman were in a relationship with the same man.

The injured party was walking with her baby in a buggy and saw a car passing with the defendant in the passenger seat.

The car came round again and Miller made a hand gesture.

The car then stopped and Miller shouted at the injured party 'you f-----g slut you have been avoiding me.'

Miller then kicked the woman in the stomach and hit her around the head five or six times before trying to topple the buggy over.

When interviewed by police Miller admitted there had been a verbal altercation but denied assault.

Defence solicitor Mr Paddy MacDermott said that the offence was 'out of character' for his client.

He said the stress was brought on by the betrayal of her partner and added she was willing to pay compensation.

District Judge Barney McElholm imposed a sentence of 60 hours community service and ordered Miller to pay £200 in compensation.

He also imposed a restraining order for a period of three years.
