Despicable: Lurgan petrol station worker threatened with hammer in robbery

A petrol station worker was threatened with a hammer in a robbery in Lurgan. 

Police described the incident as “despicable". 

It happened in the Antrim Road area at around 8pm. 

A man entered the service station armed with a hammer where he threatened staff before making off with a sum of money.

Officers responded and, a short time later, they arrested a 28-year-old man. He is currently in custody, assisting with enquiries.

Detective Inspector Celeste Simpson said: "This was a terrifying ordeal for staff who although not physically injured, have been left shaken by this despicable act.

"If you were in the area and witnessed this incident, or captured it on your dash cam, call us on 101, quoting reference number 1789 15/07/21.
