Owen Brennan has been awarded the Belfast Telegraph Cup 2015 at the Ulster Farmers' Union annual dinner.
Mr Brennan took ownership of Devenish Nutrition in 1997 when it had a £5m turnover and 23 employees. Today the group's turnover is in excess of £150m, employing over 300 staff and while the businesses headquarters and R&D centres of Innovation are strongly rooted in NI, Devenish now has a global presence. He was given the award by Agriculture Minister Michelle O'Neill at the Canal Court Hotel in Newry on Friday night.
The Belfast Telegraph Cup has now been running for almost 60 years. Mr Brennan was also chairman of the Livestock and Meat Commission for over seven years, is a member of the Food Strategy Board and its predecessor and in 2014 completed a third term as president of Northern Ireland Grain Trade Association (NIGTA).
During his final year as NIGTA president he helped devise and develop the Food Fortress project in conjunction with Queen's University - a feed testing scheme which is unique in the world and now covers 99.9% of animal feed production in Northern Ireland.
