The secrets held by Carrickfergus Castle are to be uncovered in a series of excavation works.

Archaeological digs started yesterday at Ireland's best preserved Anglo-Norman Castle in a bid to reveal more of its history.

The castle has been continuously occupied for over 800 years.

Queen's University are carrying out test excavations.
